I’ve been advised to write more…

I’ve been given feedback that I don’t blog enough…That being said, thanks to my friends for the encouragement and the positive (so far..) feedback.  Now with the entire Subiaco United Soccer club sending links of my wonderful blog around, the pressure’s on!  Celebrated my birthday eve by going back to my chinese roots at the Karaoke.  Decided to be inconsiderate by singing every other song that was on the playlist torturing my poor friends with my crooked voice… Had a ball of a time singing songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s and displayed my closet boyband fan days by singing just one song from the backside boys…Oh the horror…  “You are my fire…you are………I want it that way!  My gosh…

On the footballing side of things, we are one step closer to promotion with a win over Gwelup (Croatian team).  Our reserves didn’t do as well losing 4-2 after leading 2-0 at one point, just the story of the season really for us.  This means that another win over Canning would guarantee promotion.  However for the ressies, finishing second looks like a bleak possibility with only two games to go and with the rivals having easy fixtures in the final stretch.  Interesting to read the amatuer soccer forums that one of their players think that our club is not very good and that he can’t believe our first team is number 1 in the league.  I guess he kinda forgot that his mighty Gwelup are not exactly in contention for promotion and didn’t quite score in the game against us.  Maybe some people suffer from selective memory.  I guess the juvenile concept of being a “sore loser” does extend to adulthood.        

England continue to be absolute rubbish by beating mighty Andorra 2-0.  I reckon Singapore should organise a friendly against our former colonial masters one day.  Heck, we might score a goal!  Elsewhere, Roger Federer wins the 13th Grand Slam title of his chequered career at the US Open.  I think that basically confirms to the detractors and spastic fans that his demise has been greatly exaggerated.  3 Grand Slam finals and a semi final appearance doesn’t constitute a failure!  In short, we are watching the greatest tennis player ever and there won’t really be many like him in the years to come. 

To cap it off, while I was celebrating my birthday, I was just thinking about the amazing work that God has done in my life since I came to Perth, I remember that people were telling me things about Australia being a racist country and a land of no opportunity based on the colour of your skin.  I was also told that I will suffer from homesickness and will want to come back.  I would just like to clarify that none of the above assumptions are true and that I’ve found a life here that has been beyond what I could ever imagined.  There is an awesome quality of life and we have a tremendous diversity of poeple from different cultures.  There is also substantially much less materialism and people are less judgmental.  I guess I will be returning to Singapore at some point of my life although sometimes, it’s not necessarily about the amount of money you make or the things that you have but it’s about the content of your character.  Thank you God for moulding me in this great southland of the Holy Spirit. =)
